In Bina Bangsa PIK Preschool, August 17 is an important day of celebration. It is a day filled with the spirit of unity and patriotism as our little ones came to school dressed in the iconic colours of red and white, symbolising the Indonesian flag. It is one of our important events through which our children learn more about Indonesia’s history, the origin of the national flag and the importance of its colours.
The celebration started with the raising of the Indonesian flag while our preschoolers gathered in unison and sang the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” They also had the opportunity to sing and dance traditional Indonesian songs as a way to connect to other Indonesian culture and identity.
This celebration would not be complete without games that spark laughter and learning. All the children had fun playing “Balap Karung”, which means sack race, eating of crispy rice crackers, transferring of flags, and a lot more which kept the excitement levels high.
The day ended with our preschoolers holding and waving their own Indonesian flag while saying, “Merdeka!”. Dirgahayu Indonesia!
