In this project, our goal is to find out which colour of LED light can help to speed up plant growth. We have built set-ups that tested blue, red and purple LED lights. Mung bean plants are grown for 3 weeks in homemade set-ups placed in an outdoor environment. Throughout the course of our experiment, plants were watered daily and the height of the plant as well as the size of leaves were measured weekly. In conclusion, we have discovered that blue light was most effective in speeding up plant growth while purple light increased the rate of fruiting in plants. However, we also observed that red light was the least effective and burnt plants’ leaves. By doing this project, we hope to inspire others to use LED lights as a faster alternative to growing plants and organic products.
