Mr. Collin is the new Discipline Committee Master of BBS KJ Secondary for the school year 2016-2017. He has been a loyal member of the Bina Bangsa School family for three years as Humanities and Life Skills teacher. As the current leader of the Discipline Committee, he is responsible for the majority of actions that impact our school rules. Mr. Collin has a bright vision in improving the school policies and wishes to have a better school year for BBS-KJ.
BBS Spectrum was lucky to have been given the opportunity to have a light moment with the new DCM of BBS-KJ. We were so excited to get to know him a little bit more now that he is the new DCM. Here goes our interview:
BBS SPECTRUM: Who are the new discipline committee members?
Mr. Collin: The discipline committee members are myself, Ms. Dolly, Ms. Ine, Ms. Angie, Mr. Hassan, Mr. Rogel, and Ms. Fang Jin.
BBS SPECTRUM: What are the responsibilities of the discipline committee?
Mr. Collin: The discipline committee’s obligation is to ensure that the students follow the school rules and policies. Each year we have to review the policies to make sure that they are fair and updated to stick with the times. Some of our rules might be outdated, or there might be instances wherein we would need to add new rules as well, such as when something happens in the school and we need to find a rule to deal with that issue. However, day to day, we just try to keep track of school attendance to make sure that students aren’t late, wearing proper uniform and that they’re not disobeying or breaking any policies.
BBS SPECTRUM: Are there any new school rules for this year?
Mr.Collin: This year, we are allowing students to use the lift throughout the day. We’ve also adjusted the lateness policies so now, being late to class and being late to school are considered to be the same. If a student is repeatedly late or if they skip too many classes, they may receive internal/external suspension. Our grooming policies still remain the same.
BBS SPECTRUM: Any particular student behavior that concerns you the most?
Mr.Collin: I would say that one of the things that upsets me the most is when you have the same student committing the same offences and disobeying the same school policies over and over again, because we are always reminding the students about what they need to do, especially those who are constantly late or having some sort of grooming issue. When they consistently do it, it just shows us that they don’t care and don’t bother listening to us, and it makes us upset.
BBS SPECTRUM: What changes are you hoping to see this school year?
Mr.Collin: We have already seen a major change in lateness to school that has improved significantly compared to the previous year. In general, I would like to see the students being more respectful. Even though it’s not a discipline rule, I just feel like sometimes the students don’t realise how some of the things they say to the teachers are inappropriate or some of the ways in which they deal with a teacher in the hallways are impolite. I would like to see students be more respectful to the teachers, staff, admin and everyone in general.
Students now know the importance and purpose of the school’s discipline committee team. It shows the committee’s determination and dedication to improve our school and make it as flawless as possible. We are all hoping to see a great advancement in Bina Bangsa this academic school year, thanks to the discipline committee.
