BBS Connect

Bridging You To The Outside World

Small Steps towards a Better BBS

“What does it take to be a leader?”

What is the SGLC? SGLC stands for Student Global Leader’s Conference. It is an annual event that is meant to develop and inspire student leaders. It is also a platform where student leaders from all BBS campuses can meet, share their ideas and have new experiences. This year, it is held on 23-24 September 2016 at Bina Bangsa School’s Malang campus, with the theme ‘Laying the Framework for a Successful AY Through Cooperation and Collaboration’.

The BBS KJ students left from school on Thursday, 22 September 2016. They went to Gambir Station, rode the train, and had a 15-hour trip to Malang. They arrived at Malang the following day.

The SGLC started with an introductory session led by Mr. Bradley of BBS Malang. There was also an icebreaker session before the first workshop started. The first workshop was led by the Malang students, with the theme ‘Identifying Leaders and Leadership’. Since the BBS PIK’s students have not arrived for their workshop, the next workshop, ‘Strategies in Collaboration amongst your Leadership Team’ was led by the Bandung students. After dinner, it was the Kebon Jeruk students workshop, with the theme ‘Reaching Out to Those You’ll Lead’ and finally, the last workshop for the day was led by Mr Jason. He talked about the Leader’s Forum, an activity which will be held the next day. The last activity of the day was a teambuilding exercise that helped bonded the students.

Team-building Activities

On the second day, the PIK students had their workshop with the theme ‘What Challenges will/have you faced and how can you prevail’. There was also the Prefect’s Forum, an event in which all the BBS Campuses had to present their plans for the school year to the conference participants. Afterwards, all the students participating gathered to eat lunch together and had a photo session. That was the end of the conference.

The SGLC has taught the students many valuable values. Not only the memories and the experience, the students have also learned how to work as a team, how to cope with problems and challenges, and most importantly, how to become a better leader.

Nathania Chrestella Teruna, this year’s head prefect, felt the same way. “The SGLC was definitely a great experience to me. Not only did I get to know people from other campuses, but I also get to learn the keys to being a good leader, the true meaning of leadership. Although it might be a short trip, but I am sure that what I have learnt there and the memories that I have there will go a long way and last forever in my heart.”
