Bridging You To The Outside World

Basketball Clinic With Special Coaches

On Thursday, 16 November 2017, Bina Bangsa School KJS was abuzz with excitement. The reason – two coaches from the United States of America came to the school to speak to the KJS students about sports and character. Greg Hendricks, a former professional basketball player, Antwaan Randle El, a former American football player, came to impart their knowledge about sports and also share the biblical principles on character development.

The school basketball girls’ and boys’ teams were selected to attend the training session. It began with some dynamic drills and movements, followed by lots of dribbling and shooting. It was an invigorating session that the students enjoyed. Even some of the teachers, including the Vice-principal, Mr Richard, joined in. The participants got a taste of how training is conducted in the USA.

After the training, the coaches spoke to the students about how sports is a great vehicle to develop character, respect others and give back to society. They also shared how they have been blessed by God to take the message of love and peace to many parts of the world. The coaches then availed themselves to answer students’ questions, sign autographs and also be interviewed by students.

The coaches later joined parents, teachers and students for fellowship and a sharing session. The program started with praise and worship songs and a prayer.  Greg Hendricks and Antwaan Randle El then shared their personal testimonies about the faithfulness of God in their life.  They also shared the vision that God placed in their hearts to go to various countries and reach out young people through basketball.  Hendricks is a pastor at The Rock Church in San Diego and would frequently travel to Nigeria to run a basketball center called Jesus Christ Camps. Hendricks met Antwaan at the camp and their friendship began. They started a ministry of sharing God’s Words to athletes from different parts of the world. Their testimonies touched the hearts of those present. The evening program ended with a prayer and everyone felt blessed.
