The Fujian Province Summer Camp held this year provided opportunities for students to learn about Chinese culture. Below is a testimonial from one of our students, Adeline Budiman (JC1 Forbes), about what the trip entailed and the activities participated by the students.
Learned many things about Chinese culture
- How people interacted in the olden days
- How people dressed up in the olden days
- How people hunted in the olden days
Learned about the colors of China
- How different colors symbolize specific cultures and traditions
Learned about tea making and stitching
- Tea making is very specific and there are many steps
- Stitching was only done by girls
Learned about Chinese acupuncture
- Can help relief different types of pain using different acupuncture spots
Learned about calligraphy
- The proper posture on how to write calligraphy
Learned how to perform Tai Chi
Learned how to sing Chinese songs
- Mo Li Hua and Chong Er Fei
Learned about Chinese immigrants and how they ended up there
- How they rode boats and arrived on different continents
Learned about the Islamic culture in Fujian
- Including how they prayed in the olden days
Not only did we learn all these things, we also managed to get life skill experiences, like how to wash our clothes and how to order food in Chinese.
We also made many friends during the trip, like students from BBS Malang and other schools in Bandung.
I would definitely recommend this trip. Not only is it very affordable, but it also makes you learn how to be more responsible and you may make several friends along the way.
