BBS Kebon Jeruk Graduating Ceremony 2018, Thursday 7th June 2018
In an evening replete with graduating Secondary 4 and JC-2 students smartly striding into the hall in their resplendent gowns and mortar-boards behind their dedicated and similarly attired school director, principal, vice-principal and form and subject teachers, there were also inspirational speeches with wise and pragmatic home-truths, humorous thank-you’s and, forgivably, proud photo taking.
Parents and siblings, some of the latter either being alumni of BBS or fellow students at KJ, were dressed to the nine’s, and seemed like everyone had prepared for this day well to mark it with the dignity and celebration it required. It was impossible not to be caught up with the joy of the students and parents alike.
The pictures below capture some of the memorable moments of the evening.
Message from Mr TJ
Good evening Mr Paulas, Director BBS, distinguish guests, graduates of the class 2018, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of BBS KJS, I would like to welcome you all to our graduation ceremony 2018.
Graduation – a time for reflection, a time for goodbyes, for memories recalled and for a bright new world – waiting – there … yours for the taking!
The theme for this year graduation ceremony is “The New Horizon”! Indeed, to our graduates, you will be entering into the next phase of your life, a whole new horizon tomorrow.
Your horizon will expand, you will be exposed to many new ideas and cultures that will give a whole new meaning to your life.
The question therefor is “Are you prepare to enter into this new horizon, take full advantages of new opportunities and face all challenges that will come along your way in the near future?”
Renowned motivational speaker, Brain Tracy states, “You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.” Overly simplistic perhaps, but when you drill right down, most things in life are really quite simple.
So let’s take a look at what the world can throw at you – the good, the bad and the ugly – and let’s face it, there is quite a bit of the bad and the ugly.
You may find that the world throws indifference or apathy at you. You will find yourself facing prejudice and intolerance. You may even find that the world will laugh at your dreams or that people will try and discourage you from achieving your dreams, your goals, and your aspirations. Financial constraints will most likely be ever present, as will the fluctuating courage and the conviction to continue – day by day and step by step.
But that’s ok!
I say, “Go on – make your day,” because you have within you right now, everything you need to deal with what the world can throw at you.
You have a solid education empowering you to reach your limitless potential.
You have the courage of your convictions to challenge boundaries and obstacles that stand in your way.
You have the passion to dream wildly, the heart to cherish closely and the strength of character to honor your word.
As you stand on the brink of your graduation we entrust you – the future generation – with this responsibility:
have faith in the world,
challenge injustice,
embrace your strengths,
admit your failings,
value all that you have been taught,
know your own self worth
and hold unequivocally to this undeniable truth … you have the right to be the best that you can be.
When you feel discourage, do not forget to pray for God’s strength and wisdom. You will find comfort and solutions in His promises to you!
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
